DeQuincy Hyatt

is a proud father of three incredible children—two teenage daughters and a 4-year old son. A devoted man of faith, he serves as Chairman of the Men’s Ministry at New Destiny Christian Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Horace Sheffield III. There, he also founded the "New Destiny Man Cave," a space dedicated to brotherhood, mentorship, and spiritual growth. In addition, DeQuincy serves on the board of Clean Up Detroit, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing and beautifying communities across the city.

Born and raised in the City of Detroit, DeQuincy is a proud product of the Detroit Public School system. Growing up in a single-parent household with five siblings, he witnessed firsthand the strength and resilience of his mother, who worked three minimum wage jobs and relied on public transportation, a reality that continues to fuel his commitment to improving public transit services in Detroit.

DeQuincy’s life experiences have shaped his mission: from the financial hardships of his youth, including a lack of credit and financial literacy, to the tragic loss of his two older brothers to gun violence during his high school years. These painful events drive his passion for youth trauma support, classroom intervention programs, and real investment in mental health and violence prevention.

At age 20, he discovered a love for real estate and began rehabilitating homes across Detroit. Despite early successes, DeQuincy faced a major setback when, at age 29, he was indicted in a mortgage fraud case stemming from a poor decision made years earlier. This experience, his lowest point, taught him the value of integrity, accountability, and second chances. The record has since been expunged, and it only strengthened his resolve to lead with transparency and truth.

During that period, while working as a UAW-contracted employee at General Motors earning tier-2 wages, he rededicated his life to ministry and personal growth. He credits much of his transformation to the guidance of Charles Dixon, his GM supervisor, counselor, mentor, and spiritual advisor for nearly a decade.

As the founder and owner of a successful trucking company established in 2015, DeQuincy has spent nearly a decade traveling the country, gaining a broad perspective on business and infrastructure. He is also the visionary founder behind two innovative technology startups, GoPay and GoGo Ride created to bring more accessible financial and transportation solutions to underserved communities.

Today, DeQuincy Hyatt stands as an experienced entrepreneur, a community advocate, and a man deeply committed to uplifting the city that raised him. With lived experience, business acumen, and a heart for service, he is now stepping forward to serve as Detroit City Councilman for District 5, with a clear mission: to move Detroit forward in a major way.
